What does the Bible say about having/getting tattoos and or piercings?
There is one verse of scripture that has always been the focal point of this question, Lev 19:28.
But does it give the appropriate answer, to the question at hand, for the culture we live in today?
There are several verses of scripture that we will be looking at and have to take into consideration in order to come to a conclusion about this topic.
1st– We are focusing on this topic to better witness to others and be equipped to give the correct/best response to someone who may be asking.
So we have to begin with Romans 14:1
Both topics pretty much go together when it comes to the debate of being right or wrong.Never get into heavy disputes over something that is unclear or uncertain.
But to go ahead and for-warn you, there is more scripture that would discourage getting a tattoo and piercing than that of justifying it.
Look at the text and see what all it says:
1 Cor 10:31 do to Gods glory
1Cor. 6:19-20 your body is not your own
Romans 14:12 each will give an account
Romans 13:14 do not give in to the desires of the flesh
So the conclusion of the debate that is at hand is that:
- This subject will always be debatable.
- There is more scripture that would discourage this instead of encouraging it.
- With the amount of text against it, it would be safe to say that it would be better for one not to pierce themselves or get any tattoos.
- Does God still love you if you have one? Of course, but I wouldn’t add to it.
